Summer Happiness - A Day At The Polo

It's always very exciting when an invite arrives to spend a day at the polo. A truly British affair. Recently I was invited by whisky brand Royal Salute to join them at the legendary Guards Polo Club for a picnic in their ‘secret garden’ beside the field.  Polo, for those of you who don’t know, is a game played by rather good looking men on horses hitting a ball into an opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet.  It is known as ‘the sport of Kings’.

We were extremely lucky to have the sun come out after a day where I thought the rain would never stop!  It was just as well, as Royal Salute (a whisky founded in 1801 in Aberdeen, Scotland and worth having a sip) had organised for each guest to have a hamper and enjoy a wonderful picnic which included a lot of cheese! (My favourite).

After eating ourselves silly, we enjoyed a fast moving game of polo where England beat South America. Of course I got involved with the traditional ‘stomping the divots’ (treading down any lose grass) with my favourite polo partner - Henry Conway, who was looking rather dashing in his green jacket. We even saw Prince Charles was getting involved too!  After HRH Prince Charles gave out the prizes we were offered even more food - scones! What a delight and they had been baked freshly on site by the amazing team from Mossiman’s!

After successfully eating way too much we were on our way back to London for a much needed nap in a terrifically luxurious car provided by the lovely people at Royal Salute!!

Fashion Tips for Polo Watching

Avoid high heals - Unless you are a pro at walking in heals on grass - try to avoid. Try instead to stick to wedges, flats or thick heels.

Elegance - Whether you are wearing a skirt, dress or jeans think 'elegance'. Try to avoid neon colours! (Never a good look unless you are a traffic cone!)

Be Comfortable - This is key for me, I wore a long skirt from L K Bennett which comes in at the waist but also covers my wobbly bits and the skirt allows me to eat cheese and scones!!!

My Outfit - L K Bennett Skirt, H&M basic top, Toms sunglasses, Kurt Geiger Shoes
